A blessed Easter to you all! Please help me choose something important!
I am having a hard time today because getting ready for Easter was hard, and now my photos aren't loading! This is all I can get to put on here! I will try to add a family photo later if I can get it to load into the post.
I'm getting older and getting ready for a holiday is not easy. I used to have lots of kids around to help me tidy and clean and cook. Now I am doing it all myself and I'm just, well —
I'm ready to give up, honestly.
I need to do some self care.
I used to hate tattoos, but I really, really want one to express how I feel. Just a little one on my arm, you know — so when I do manage to bake a pretty loaf of bread or something, it will show up in my IG posts when I hold out what I've done. My arms are getting saggy and old-lady-ish and I just need a boost!
So help me choose??
I want it to say “BLESS THIS MESS” because y'all, I AM SO DONE WITH HOUSEWORK!
So should I get this one, A:
Or this one, B:
Or this one, C:
Tell me in the comments! I think I will go smaller than these but I NEED A TATTOO NOW!!
I will go tomorrow so don't delay!
And enjoy today — APRIL FOOL!!
Christ is Risen and I actually am full of joy! I hope you are too! MWAH!!

Clearly the cross-stitch version fits the aesthetic best! This is too funny – you had me reading with my mouth open wondering if you were serious!!! Happy Easter! 🙂
Rosie says
Why not a full sleeve???
Mary Keane says
Yes, and then you can always be comfortable in your tank tops without scandal!
Carrie says
Well, the font of Option B has a pleasing Charles Rennie Macintosh vibe but I think I’d go for Option A. You’ll be referencing your ability with a needle as well as your commitment to the culinary arts when you pose for housewifely photos.
Molly R says
Hm. The infinity symbol is tempting. So final, as if you’ll never need to clean again, that mess is so blessed. But the Gothic lettering has a nice trad touch to it. 🤣 For about half a second, I was shocked that you used the term “self care,” then remembered the day. Hilarious!
Caitlin says
That was when I cottoned on as well! lol. Auntie Leila, you got me again!
Tina says
When I got to the third photo I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized what day it is 🙂
Tarynkay says
Definitely the cross-stitch, but I think you should add the infinity symbol (also in cross-stitch) to it. Housework is the art of the infinite, after all!
mary says
What about, “Live, Laugh, Love” ? It seems like that also might be a good fit for your aesthetic
Vanessa says
You really got me! 🤪
I was so relieved when I saw April Fool’s.
Ken H says
Well, I think that “C” would be the most impressive.. But I have to say that because I love you so much and want to help, you should think about the heavy metals in the inks and maybe go for something with a lower ink concentration. Maybe it could be done with the Braille alphabet or Morse Code? That would be minimal and also intriguing.
Happy April Fool’s day!
And blessed Easter Octave –
Love!
Linda Lee says
Whew! You had me going!!! Easter Blessings! And April Fools!!
Rebekah says
As soon as I saw the words “ready to give up” I remembered what day it is 😂 Auntie Leila would never. You have the best April Fool posts!
Molly B. says
Leila, I think you feel a lot better if you rehydrate some ice cubes and just drink some ice water. Honestly, drinking more water, regardless of ice, is really the best self-care solution for a variety of problems. Pictures not loading to website? Get up, drink a glass of water. Need to lose weight? Drink water during your exercise. Slow driving habits? Drink water, but don’t visit the loo before you drive somewhere. Final kitchen renovation details driving you bananas? Just drink a glass of water and be grateful that your faucets are installed and you found the Berkey filter stand for cheap. Broken arm? Drink water and eventually the bones will knit!
Ha ha ha!! Enjoy the day! On my part, my poor husband got some wasabi with his lunch. Short-term memory nutritional fix, supposedly, or at least he will forget that he was trying to remember something when gets a bolus of wasabi!
Nadege says
Ha! Ha! And April fools to you too.
I suggest a full sleeve and please add to that some face piercings to complete the look.
Shellie says
I thought you’d lose your mind!!! Sel-care, tats, it’s all too much!! You forgot therapy and going NC (no contact) with anyone who violates your boundaries.
Shellie says
Typos. self-care and lost.
Carol says
I was really expecting something more literary…maybe “An apple a day, if well aimed, keeps the doctor away” or “Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of recorded time and all our yesterdays have lighted fools the way to dusty death.”
Though the second might be too long for your tiny arm.
My daughter suggested a scriptural quote might fit better: like 2 Sam 14:26
Okay, I get the housekeeping issue….I vote #3…more traditional.
My daughter and I were eagerly awaiting your post for this morning and you didn’t disappoint, yours are always the best!
Dixie says
Oh, definitely the one with the infinity symbol! Because there should be no end to your willingness to avoid housework!
And then, just think — you can draw the symbol into the dust that accumulates on the mantel and the bedside tables and then take a picture of you flexing your tattoo next to it! #win
Molly says
Absolutely the cross stitched version. It’s so homey!
Vera says
Thanks for the laugh! I needed one today. When you threw in the y’all, I appreciated that.
Aubri Hale says
I’m so relieved! 😆 I got a tattoo in my 20s and tell my children it’s one of the dumbest things I’ve ever done! 🤦 Blessed Easter! ✝️
Nancy says
HAHA!
Marlene Gonzalez says
As soon as your wrote, “I’m ready to give up,” I checked the date. Well played. 😂
Lindsey says
Ah, I love this tradition!!! I really like the cross stitch option, personally. You could definitely go multicolour on that one. It’s so homey, and I think it will encourage others to get their needles going too.
😉
Lisa G. says
You rascally rabbit! I was just thinking of linking a video of an exorcist’s opinion on tattoos, when it dawned on me. Glad to know you’re still sane! Happy Easter!! 🙂
Mrs Karen S Rodgers says
Please Leila do not get a tatoo.. reputable exorcists are telling us that these things are extremely spiritually dangerous,
warmest regards,
Karen in Cambridge
Leila says
Dear Karen, Don’t worry! I won’t!
Sibyl says
Good grief, I have been reading your blog for more than 10 years and it STILL got me! Can I even handle the thought of Auntie Leila even speaking the words “Bless this mess”?!?
A tattoo. I laughed out loud.
Happy April Fools’ Day!
Amy says
you are my favorite always and forever!
Sunflower says
I was thinking that your blogged had been hacked because that just did not sound like you at all.
Laura says
I’ll bring the whiskey! LOL. Now that you have two sinks, why stop at one tattoo. Just think of all the grandkid names.
Mary Woodward says
The 3rd option looks kind of Metal/Pirates of the Caribbean and I kind of think you selected that option for a reason – ‘cause there must be some Metal/Pirates of the Caribbean vibes running through your soul. Let your true colors fly, Auntie Leila, and let your tattoo show that rad part of your personality with the World, girl!
Iris says
Wahahaha. Thanks.
I think it was the “self-care” that made me laugh out loud. And then, “Bless this Mess”???
Denise T says
Hahaha! You almost had me!!!!
Mary says
hahaha oh, MY! You got me! I couldn’t believe what I was reading, but you sounded so serious! Too funny!
Joan Campbell says
Your April Fools joke are always the BEST. Love to you and yours. Have loved your blog for years…any grandma advice and or ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Joan Campbell says
PS – I would love to know how you seat you family when that beautiful dining room table isn’t big enough to hold everyone?
Leila says
I often just move it down and stick a card table on the end. The tablecloth pictured fits over the two tables — it’s extra long. Or I use a regular one and a little square one.
This Easter we had a kids’ table with the 10 kids at it — my kitchen table pulls out and has two leaves! It can seat 12! And the 10 adults sat at the dining table + card table (with two babes in arms trading off the high chair).
