Here's why I can't talk to you.
Three bridesmaids' dresses for Sukie, one completely done (only, really, I need to get it back from being tried on and finish off the inside seams properly), two all-but-hand-sewing-done.
Three bridesmaids' dresses for Deirdre, one close to being done (including the zipper, which was worrying me, just because zippers are worrisome and so final, yet so very inevitably in need of tweaking before really being done), two mostly cut out, same two in need of more lace fabric to complete (waiting on Joann's for that, wish me luck).
One mother-of-the-bride's dress to make, I guess (I did find one to buy, which is miraculous and due only to my friend Erin's insistent pressure to give into free shipping from Boden and just try it on). (If Boden wants to advertise here, not that I have any time to figure out about ads on the blog right now, they will know that I really and truly believe in them and think their clothes a) are modest and b) fit and c) are well made and d) are cute. That's… miraculous.)
One knitting project for the Dragon baby.
The garden.
The yard.
Maybe my blog should be called “Pictures from a while ago” or something.
Maybe it should be called, “More cleaning up the yard from the storm before the last one.”
Or “Well, I remembered to take one photo.”
Sukie's bridal shower here. She is reacting to her gift of a stool from my friend Therese. Therese always tells about her godmother giving her a stool for reaching her 6'3″ husband for a kiss (she's about 5'2″, she claims). So of course she had to give one to Sukie so she could reach John, 6'6″. I love my friends.
Well, this was from yesterday, when it was merely freezing inside, not freezing and raining. Note the shaft of sunlight. I'm not bitter…
At least this was long enough ago so that I don't feel too bad about that ratty garden. Things have gotten worked on since then.
All the intense spring weather has brought fantastic light that is far beyond my capabilities to capture. Here is a tiny taste of a recent dusk, minus the wild contrast between the white blossoms on that one tree in the middle distance, and the redbuds in the background.
See, progress already with that garden!
Tomorrow we'll have a {pretty, happy, funny, real} with maybe some photos of an even more tidied-up garden, possibly even in the sun, and — Pippo! Who's visiting us! For a good long while!
I hope you can join us.
Even when things are crazy and the list of to-dos is so long you can't see the bottom, we still try to stick to the basics. In the midst of everything, trying to learn to live in the rhythms of the Church — in the liturgical year — and now it's May, the lilacs are blooming…
Dear Christina from A Button and a Fig had the thought that we could share our little efforts to grow in devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary during May. It doesn't have to be this week, but sometime this month maybe you could show us your prayer table or icon corner or whatever little touches you have done to foster this idea of showing our mother in heaven how much we love her.
For instance, do you have a statue you crown in her honor? When do you do that? Can you show us a picture?
Or, if you're not Catholic or Orthodox or otherwise devotion-y this way or if you are but can't get around to a picture, just a picture of any part of your life this week (or last week :)!
