I can't even remember where we got those little Indian chicken ornaments. I do remember that I used to hang them up, until Bridget (she was much younger then) helpfully cut the “tags” off of two of them. So now they go on the window frame.
They are not easy to photograph…
…but they are really cute.
To me, right now, they don't really seem all that Christmas-y. But maybe that isn't the case. I kind of don't want to change the header…but maybe I'm delusional, like that lady on What Not to Wear who wore a raccoon tail on her pants all the time — remember that episode? What do you think?

I love the header. I have studied those little chickens and worked out how to make my own, I like this picture so much. But it isn't just the chickens, it's the way they sit in a sunny window that's so appealing. It's a great picture! I just discovered this blog via Like Merchant Ships (I think that's where I saw the link) and have enjoyed it much. Thank you!

WWWWHHHATTT?!! I never saw that episode! Are you making it up?

I like the chicken header. But. Is winter is getting long? and that is why you ask? Maybe shake it up a bit by pointing them in a different direction and see if anybody notices. Enjoying your blog. 🙂

I love the chickens! I had no idea they were Christmas ornaments. Keep them—they're like your brand.

I think the chickens look lovely and kind of hint at Spring to come. I really enjoy your blog too…just wonderful:-)

I also love the chickens but I am partial to chickens anyway. I had no idea they were Christmas ornaments. They're not even vaguely Christmas-y to me, but I think they'd look awesome on the Christmas tree too. Whatever you do with your header, please don't start wearing a raccoon tail on your pants. And please, tell us more about laundry!!

I don't think they look Christmas-y! I like the header. I don't usually like it when blogs change how they look. One of the things that attracted me to them IS the look. Don't change a thing! :o)

I love the chickens but I'm not against changing them…I like your creativity and would love to see what you come up with. You can always put them back if they are squawking about being shelved-chickens are like that.

I just changed my own layout/theme with WordPress and popped up a new picture. After two years, I figured I could finally change things a bit. You can always change back, right? It's fun to mix things up.But. The chickens are fabulous and fun and people know when they arrive that they've found you. So that's why I hestitated taking down my letters from before. People got familiar with them and identified them with me–almost like a "brand." It's kind of like moving furniture around in a room, isn't it? You move it around and sometimes land on a fabulous new arrangement that you just needed to try to appreciate. Other times, you shift it around, and it just isn't quite right.I say try something new if you want, but hang on to them in case nothing else is quite right.

When I first found your blog it was the chickens that really caught my eye. They are so cute!I say keep the picture, for the time being anyway. It looks especially good with the bit of sunshine on them. But the decision is yours to make. They could become your trade mark as the previous commenter said.I have the same picture that I started out with on my blog.I must say that I am enjoying your blog and catching up on all your previous posts. We are expeciencing record breaking hot weather (an extreme heatwave) here in Southern Australia.Hope you have a wonderful day,Tania

I am new to your blog, I just found it a few days ago from likemerchantships, but I have loved reading it! I think the chickens give a artsy feel, but an even deeper symbolism, because they remind one of a mother hen leading her line of chicks. And they all look similar- like mother, like daughter.

I love the header, and I had no idea the chickens were supposed to be Christmas-y. I think it looks great. Don't change it. Also, I love your blog. Wonderful, wonderful posts.

I agree with Providence Ladies–they are a little like mother, like daughter. And I love the sunlight in that shot!

Well, I love those chickens. But I also like it when you mix up the header occasionally and keep things fresh. I mean, don't hold on to the photo too anxiously, because you always have a really pretty new one with which to replace the old. I always think, "THIS should be the permanent header!" and then you change it and I'm always pleasantly surprised. This is interesting though – LawlerFamilyStalker and I were discussing the blog when she first discovered it, which was during Advent. She asked me whether there was advent symbolism with the elephant ornaments and said, "I mean, I understand the chicken/rooster one – since it's supposed to signify the rooster waiting for the dawn the way that we wait for the coming of Christ…" I confessed to her that I'd never made that connection, and since then I've thought of those birds in an advent context.HOWEVER I find Providence Ladies' comment inspiring — how cute! I love the idea that I'm one of your little embroidered hens following you like daughter like mother…(But you could also come up with another picture that has a similar theme…) (But maybe my RA training – new monthy door tags included – has just made me obsessed with "keeping things fresh"…)

Absolutely not! I love those little chickens and keep looking at them thinking I should just sit down and work out a way to make my own. Of course it's your blog and you do what you want, especially if you have other adorable little tschotcke's around that will inspire creativity in us….

For those of you who are trying to make these little ornaments, I will tell you that they are somewhat hard, not soft — does that help? You are all so sweet!xoxo
