So, I had no large pieces left (other than muslin and pieces of the backing) for the binding. I decided to sew together my scraps to make enough yardage to then cut up for bias tape for binding. The life of a quilter is truly an exercise in contradiction:
I just didn't know how this would work. For one thing, there's the randomness. For another, many juxtaposing seams…
But here is the tape:
And here is the quilt, done!!
What do you think? I like it.

I love it! Quilting is so awesome. The binding has a great look to it. I can't wait to see it in person!
Rosie says
Wow, I LOVE it!! It looks fabulous. Can I have it? (we probably don't have enough quilts yet in our little apartment here).
Jen says
Will you finish the three quilts I have nearly finished? I have no time or space to get them done!
Mom says
Dear Rosie, I think this is a more masculine quilt, sorry. You will just have to freeze with the 80-12 quilts you have. Will's comment was, "I like the corners." !Dear Jen, Finish them! Don't be a slacker! I can't do everything for you! 🙂 Seriously, post pictures of what you have so far and I'll browbeat you from here — I mean, offer you affirming encouragement…(It only took me 20 years to do 8 small quilts, what's wrong with you. :)By the way, only bias bindings will do! Not to add any pressure or anything… 🙂
Jen says
I don't even know what a bias binding is. It's hard to quilt while remodeling anyway.By the way- are any Lawler's stuck in DC for Turkey Day? We finished planning the feast tonight (only two meats though).
Mom says
Oh my goodness, Jen, you just reminded me! I have venison in the freezer! While this is not a classic Arabic meat, I was thinking of cooking it for Thanksgiving, along with the turkey, of course. Do you have any recipes for venison stew meat? That would go with Thanksgiving?
Jen says
so far that hasn't come up as an option, so no, no recipes for you.

Mom, it is gorgeous and timeless. I love it!Hi Mrs. Minson! We DC girls are, fortunately, making it home for the holiday — but thank you for the invitation! I'm sure your feast will be delicious…
Mom says
I think I will leave the venison for Christmas when I can think straight (umm hmm). Maybe by then Jen and family will have thoroughly researched this topic for me! I also have ground venison in there… all courtesy of a hunting brother of a friend :)I thank you too, Jen, for offering hospitality to my girls! It means a lot to know they have a warm place to go if necessary!
Jen says
You are truly amazing. Not only do you finish quilts, know what bias binding is, but you plan to be able to think better at Christmas than Thanksgiving! I'm already planning on being a big pile of goo by the 26th!The Lawlers are always welcome here. Especially when the bring balawa.
