Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~
Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
We ended up with a fairly quiet Easter celebration here at our house, despite plans for a houseful of guests. We had our realtor come by to look at the house and talk to us about putting it on the market, so everything was sparkling clean by Holy Thursday.
(Which, by the way, is when Maria Von Trapp says your Easter cleaning should be finished by. Score!)
I had the meat marinating and was using up the butter as fast as I could move it from the freezer to the fridge. I was working through my prep lists. We were on track.
Our girls were finally getting over a slow-moving bug that kept them cranky and feverish on and off for the better part of two weeks. (What is it about holidays that makes kids get sick?) We decided we weren't going to derail their recovery by keeping them up late for the Holy Thursday and Good Friday liturgies, but thought we should be all set to go Easter morning. But then Pippo finally succumbed on Holy Saturday, and we had to split up for Mass and cancel our dinner.
That is, we told our guests not to come.
But we (along with my brother-in-law, who was already up here from Dallas) still feasted!
I downgraded my food plans a bit, and stuck a few things in the freezer for another time, but mostly we just enjoyed it all, then enjoyed it again for lunch and dinner the next day, too! (We're still working on the desserts. There are worse problems to have than a backlog of sweets during Easter.)
The girls were super cute in their matching dresses from Habibti, and even though a pajamaed Pippo meant I wasn't even going to pretend to attempt an official family photo, I got Capt. P to take some pictures of all three of us girls in our Easter dresses.
Poor Pippo did rally a bit in time to spend a few minutes outside with us and eat a little dinner before retreating back to his little nest on the sofa.
Now we're all pretty much on the mend, and trying to finish up all our Easter desserts (it's a difficult job, but someone's got to do it) in time to make some birthday cake this weekend. (Fun fact: Nora has celebrated two Easters in her first year!)
Did your Easter Sunday go as planned? I hope you are still well-supplied with chocolate.

I made this cake ( http://www.dessertfortwo.com/one-bowl-chocolate-cake/) for a Easter-Octave treat but with mint jelly instead of raspberry (I figured, mint and chocolate are great together!) and I am the only one in the house that thinks it tastes good that way! More cake for meeeee…
Our Easter Vigil had a two story high bonfire made of bamboo and pine branches doused with kerosene !! I was kind of sorry to process inside the church…I would have liked to watch the fire some more!

Those kabobs!!! If only blog posts were edible……..
There is nothing cuter than Easter Dresses on little girls with “shiny shoes” as my daughter used to called them.
Blessed Easter to you!! Alleluia!

There’s always a silver lining to be found! (so much food you don’t have to cook for a while) 😀

Beautiful pictures! I enjoy your blog so much! I have the same type of hair as you do Rosie. Any product recommendations/styling tips??
Rosie says
Ah, like many curly-haired girls, I could go on and on about curly hair care! Quick version: hair cut by someone who understands curly hair and will cut it dry, only sulfate-free products, and moisture-rich conditioner. I use some natural brand of sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner from my grocery store, then Garnier sleek and shine products – leave-in conditioner, and gel (curl scrunch, I think it’s called?). My basic routine is to scrunch it up with product, “plop hair” and wrap it up in an old tshirt, then when I have a chance, pin up the front so it doesn’t dry flat.
Do you know the website naturallycurly.com?

I was reading an old book on the liturgy (The Church’s Year of Grace) by Pius Parsch during Lent and he said housewives should have all their cleaning done by Spy Wednesday. Major eye roll. Although I had the bulk of my cleaning done, I was still scrubbing walls between baking stints on Holy Saturday (which was also my birthday). I had some family over for Easter dinner. In the old days the kids used to outnumber the adults dramatically and our Easter egg hunts required major planning (and “thousands” of plastic eggs). Our hunt consisted of only five kids this year. Sniff. The upside was there were not as many cranky, sugar-loaded kids to deal with the next day.
Those dresses are even cuter on the girls than they were on your mother’s hangers!

Happy Easter! The photos of you and girls are wonderful!

We know where the girls’ adorable dresses came from, but do tell about yours! So lovely!

Thank you! It’s probably my favorite thing I’ve ever found on Thredup – bought it this fall for my sister-in-law’s wedding. The brand is “Tucker,” which I’d never heard of before, but it’s silk and colorful and nursing-friendly!

Such sweet dresses on the girls. It all looks beautiful despite the illness. Hope you are all feeling better.

The dresses are so precious. My mom made dresses for us four girls every Easter when we were little, all matching. You are glowing. Happy Easter!
