I don't decorate for Halloween, dear Kimba, other than putting out a pumpkin or two, because, well, please don't hate me — I don't really like Halloween. And I really don't like cleaning up after Halloween decorating.
But I have to tell you — even for me, I got nothin'.
Well, I've got a colorful but not even very pretty leaf on the plastic covering the desk that goes in the pantry but is now on the deck, pending the floor being installed and then I need to paint the desk:
I've got this:Which represents waiting for my kitchen floor.
And this:Yes, those are the same pears from my other post. They have been in the outside refrigerator, not on that counter, but still. Pear sauce in the works.
I could make a pear and rhubarb pie. That would be good, and sort of combine “fall” with “it's still summer, I'm in denial.”
And I've got this:
Which goes in this:
Because you will kick yourself in January if you are buying herbs.
I've got this:and this:
Yes, I will have to paint that porch soon, hmmm…..
And this — does this look pretty to you? Did you notice the blue painter's tape? Um hum.
My wonderful hardworking husband has this:Might as well chuck that in there just to keep the anxiety level up.
I thought of making a wreath like one I saw on someone's clever blog out of these:
Somewhere in hereis the pumpkin that grew out of the compost. If I got that out, we could put it… well, not on the porch.
And that would be our fall decorating.
Anyone else out there feeling a little overwhelmed?

You look like you have way to much on your plate to worry about decorating for Halloween! Your kitchen floor looks spooky though!

Ha ha ha! I have tons of stuff to process from my garden but I'm getting tired of doing it. I just canned 16 pints of applesauce. I need to go pick my butternut squash too…Mine aren't as big this year. We're also constantly in the process of chopping wood for winter. Thanks for reminding me to do something with my herbs. Every year I forget. Happy Autumn! Good luck getting everything done!

I know the feeling! How do you preserve the butternut squash?
Leila says
Hi Jen!Once I kept them in a box in the garage over my fridge. They did fine until late January when they sort of froze, which ruins them (it makes them taste the way pumpkin smells). I didn't think they'd freeze out there…Last year I put them in a box in the mudroom, which is the right temp (they should be stored at around 50*). But there are so many this year. I need a root cellar :)Ma (from Little House books) kept her squash in the attic, as I recall. I think I'll keep them in the pantry or the attic. My whole house is so cold, they could go under my bed for that matter 🙂

Pretty pictures, Mommy! I esp. love the one of the rhubarb and the one of the corks in the drawer. And OH MY WORD the house looks so amazing! I can't wait to come home and see it — I hope there's still foliage, because it will look so nice!

Oh this is too funny. We don't "do" Halloween either…except to load up on the candy the day after for lunches. And you write just the way I think…I posted about cracked eggs on Halloween but resisted the temptation to discuss using them for the occasion in sinister ways, of course. http://www.dailydecadent.com

Oh yeah! Now that is the kind of decoarting I can relate to. I do think you need to add a glinting ax to that wood pile next year. It would be even scarier!
