Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
{funny}
(So much growling and roaring! We've been joking lately that he “talks” like he's being raised by wolves.)
(Normally, of course, he's a lovely, symmetrical baby.)
And here it is again, as he tries to climb up my legs and eat my camera strap:
“Roar!” |
We named it it the “Cowboy Face” photo.

Something is eating the edible parts of my garden – and it's not me!
I think it might be caterpillars? I've seen some on the plants. They're destroying my basil and mint, and have just discovered my tomatoes. At this rate they're going to have to turn into some pretty beautiful butterflies to make up for all this destruction.
Do you know what I should do to make them stop?
jen says
i think it's snails that are messing with your mint and basil. it happened to me and i just put down snail bait. i had no problems after that.
Provincial Homemaker says
Wow, those loaves look beautiful. I am sure your neighbour will love to receive them – what a kind thought when they have a new baby.
Also, Pippo makes a delightful pirate baby.
Kate says
Pippo is quite the character! My little guy pulls some great faces too – makes me pretty sure he will be a handful as he gets bigger. I hope you get a fix for your plants soon!
Anne says
hahaha! love the faces. makes me miss him!
Also, I looove bread dough, its so soft and firm and warm and white. I used to compare Ann's fluffy baby belly to rising dough. Now she has too many muscles, but i loved that phase!
Lindsey says
Mmmm, that bread looks delicious! And those faces are too funny!
Breanna says
You can also put out a deepish saucer of beer and see if you catch snails/slugs. They love it and will drown themselves in it.
kay says
If it is snails eating your basil, crushed egg shells under the plants. Also you might try Dawn dish detergent sprayed on the plants.
Maurisa says
Oh. My. Goodness! That pirate smile is hysterical! What an absolute cutie!
ayearinskirts says
I love your little boy's face! Especially how the newborn one looks just the same as now!
brenda says
Both of my daughters used to scrunch up one eye like that when they were little. We called it the Popeye face. 🙂
Eileen says
That's what I thought! Pippo looks like Popeye! (That's the beginning of a tongue twister!)
Lish says
He really is so adorable and I also find bread and rising dough beautiful. One of my few joys that don't involve my kids! I would try insecticidal soap for your plants. I usually make some, Put a few tablespoons of liquid soap and 1/2 teaspoon baking soda in a spray bottle and top off with water, shake and spray. Good luck! Seems like an easier to fix garden problem than my woodchuck who keeps eating all the greens I am getting ready to pick!
Linny says
Bread dough is so lovely!
And love the funny pictures of Pippo!
PNG says
Your bread looks so yummy, and Pippo is adorable with that face! Good luck trying to save your Basil. Do you make pesto? We ate pesto tossed with pasta and chicken with fresh, grated Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top as newlyweds. Our oldest girls remember that instead of Mac & Cheese! Now everyone in the house loves pesto and smiles every time I make up a batch!
Mamabear, JD says
Love the pictures of Daddy and Baby.
Nadja says
Your bread looks delightful and I love Pippo's crooked little pirate grin!
Kate says
Our 4yo son makes a similar face, although we call it the “Calvin” face (from Calvin and Hobbes).
Fertilize your basil with “Dr. Earth” to help it recover. Then spinkle some crushed eggs shells around the plants. That might deter any soft creatures like snails. Now if it's earwigs, put some cheap veggie oil in an empty tuna tin near the plants; they'll crawl in and drown.
Emily says
Such an adorable baby! Pippo looks like he's winking!
Fiona says
Lovely baby!
Pippajo says
You are not the only one who thinks bread dough is pretty (obviously, now that I've read the comments above me)! I feel the same way about the dough when I make scones or biscuits. I also love playing in it, but that's another story.
Pippo's pirate face is precious! Isn't it interesting how you can see a person's idiosyncrasies from such a young age?
RubberChickenGirl says
We had pics of my youngest The Original RubberChickenGirl (ORCG) with the pirate face. We started calling her “Mine Aauurgh!” because of the one-eyed look.
I think diluted insecticidal soap works on edibles. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insecticidal_soap http://tinyurl.com/3ww5fgm

Pippo's pirate/cowboy face is too cute! And I think dough is pretty too!
Rachel says
Gorgeous photos. I am so impressed…with all of it!
skoots1mom says
too funny…It reminds me of POPEYE the SAILOR MAN…TOOT TOOT!
ramona says
I think bread dough is pretty, too… and I find your blog delightful! I'll be back often!
Sarah says
I haven't had a chance to use this yet, but am planning to this evening on my tomatoes for tomato worms . . . use 2 Tablespoons Neem Oil plus 2 Tablespoons dish soap to a gallon of water for an organic, food-safe “insecticide.” I bought one of those garden sprayers that you hook the hose up to to spray the concoction. Hope this helps!
Best,
Sarah
PS – Bought the Neem oil at Lowes and most nurseries would have it too. Good luck!
justamouse says
That bread is beautiful. And Pippa's Rowr is adorable. I love that age.
Ginger says
Looks like you had a great week! I need to start capturing my week in pictures, I have not picked up my camera in so very long. So very sad. I hope to work on it. You gave me some inspiration. I am always looking for that perfect picture instead of looking at my perfect life that God gave me. ( NO NOT really perfect)
Cassy says
Very cute handsome baby boy!
I love hot star bread as well.

Pippo is a riot! Love the wink. Sure, must have been doing that in utero. My 11 year old still sleeps with her right had raised in a waving position, we have a ton of baby pics of her raising that hand. The old parental warning of “If you make that face, it will get stuck that way!” must be true!
