The weekly “little of this, little of that” feature, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
I got a new phone and am trying out the camera.
On to our links!
- Sometimes this view seems so energizing.
- Super informative:
- This webcam is the original one of its kind!
- Wikipedia has great, short articles — check this one out!
Okay, okay — maybe you wanted some real links in {dips & doodles}, even if it is APRIL FOOL'S DAY!!!
Here are a few 🙂
- In my post on fairy tales, I talked about how the king in The Six Swans lacks self-control: do you know what the “meek” in “meek and humble of heart” means?
- A reader linked to this interesting talk given by Vigen Guroian, in which he discusses the specifically Christian imagery in Grimm's fairy tales. You can listen to it if you are in search of a podcast, or read the transcript.
- My husband said that if you only read one thing this weekend, make it this message from Cardinal Sarah to the Colloquium organized to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Summorum Pontificam, the document which allows for widespread celebration of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Cardinal Sarah starts out a little blandly and works himself up into quite an energetic diatribe about those who take it upon themselves to make worship over into their own image.
- A very important overview of the devastating effects of pop psychology on all aspects of religion. These same strategies keep creeping into our institutions, each time gaining more of a foothold and becoming more normalized, sad to say.
- The supreme incoherence of transgender ideology. Be careful what you assent to.
Liturgical Year:
- As we prepare for the Fifth Sunday in Lent, here is a deep meditation on the cross from St. Irenaeus. It's also the feast of St. Hugh of Grenoble in the old calendar.
From the archives:
- If for some reason you are fascinated by the burning question, “What is worship?”, take a look at my guided reading of The Spirit of the Liturgy by Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI). Then you will really understand what Cardinal Sarah is saying (in that greeting linked above). And if you truly want to get to the bottom of things, scroll down on that post and follow the link to start with Romano Guardini's book of the same name.
- Need some friends to read crazy things like that with? Or any interesting article we link to, or a Jane Austen book perchance (I'm currently reading Persuasion for the eighty-twelfth time; it's my happy place)? How about starting a St. Gregory Pocket? Is it scary? Deirdre discusses. Have you started one recently, or want to revive one? Let us know and we will get out the word for you!
We hope you have enjoyed this edition of {bots & fleeces}!
~We’d like to be clear that, when we direct you to a site via one of our links, we’re not necessarily endorsing the whole site, but rather just referring you to the individual post in question (unless we state otherwise).~

Whew! I just woke up and forgot what day it is, and I thought, wow, this is a really lackluster post! I apologize for thinking it was Rosie in her postpartum exhaustion.

Hahaha, April fooling aside, it sure does look as if a 3 or 4yo were trying out the camera. But only if there are also at least 87 photos on burst of the SAME crayons and siblings and tape dispenser.

I knew it was April first, but didn’t “get it” that it was April Fools’ Day. But Leila never forgets. 🙂

Yes, well, you *GOT* me!
I often feel less-than-gifted when you post beautiful, thought-provoking, and tough articles….Explaining the Export-Import–maybe I should know more about that, hmmm…yes, I’ll make myself read that–
I also didn’t notice the changing of the title, until I loaded it, and did a “double-take”…
Well, done!
Mirthfully~ Donna
Rebecca says
You get me every year! 🙂

Oh. Migosh. Every. Year. Because I love your blog so much I always try to give y’all the benefit of the doubt for a post that doesn’t seem up to your usual standard — and then once the ridiculousness increases it finally dawns on me. This time I saw the first part of the blog and thought, hmm new phone, she must not have picked up on the autocorrect fail in the title if she were posting from her phone! Sheesh.
