And second:
Don't forget that I will be in St. Louis, MO next week! I'm so looking forward to this trip, information about which you can find on the Speaker's page. I hope to see you there!
We, Rosie and I, thought that Rosie would be popping in here for this week's {pretty, happy, funny, real}, but sadly, her crew is sick. She is too. And it's about the umpteenth time this winter that they've had a stomach bug, so that is
{real}
I'm full of sympathy but also proud that Pippo is comfy on the sofa here.
{happy}
Finally on Sunday the snow calmed down enough for us to get out and ski! I tried to depict how it was on the hard-won trails vs. out in the deep, but I think I just can't convey funny Roxie swimming in snow!
Remember, these are apple trees, not apple bushes:
The other day when it was approximately negative one hundred degrees out, I drove up the hill and saw that the neighbors had the maple sap lines out. I went home and told the Chief. He had to look it up. It was true. Time to start tapping … and we had to remind ourselves about the warning that all the syruping books tell you: Don't put the taps “within reach” when there's three feet of snow on the ground, because in two weeks they will be too high! And who knows where the wood is buried for the fire …
And then, yesterday for the first time … ever … it seems like … I stepped outside and thought, “Oh, spring might one day come!” It has been a long winter.

I like your specification: these are apple trees, not bushes, haha! Certainly puts things in perspective!

It’s all so beautiful and yet so unimaginable! To be walking that high off the ground on packed snow, just to be (hopefully) gone again soon.

I don’t know if this would be helpful at all, but my family battled with the stomach bug horribly last year. I read an article that said drinking a small glass of 100% grape juice daily keeps the tummy bug away. We started drinking it daily this school year, and no tummy bug so far (knock on wood!). Hope everyone feel better soon! I love reading your blog. It is such an encouragement for this mom and homemaker. 🙂

Yes, yesterday was a bit of a respite from the hardness of this winter! Even with the 2 inches of snow and ice I had to shovel… the melting! The glorious melting!
Anitra says
Oh, I forgot to mention that I am also very thankful we’ve had very little illness this winter. SO thankful, especially with a baby! I just forget about it since we had our illnesses (croup mostly) front-loaded and got them out of the way in September/October.

It’s crazy how the different sides of the same country are experiencing such different extremes of winter. Hoping spring comes sooner rather than later for you…
Terri says
I, too, have had the sensation recently that spring is coming. It was Sunday morning, cold and snowy (another 6 inches), but the birds were singing! Hang in there.
Jenn says
Boo on being sick! It’s no fun at all, especially when little ones are involved. I hope everyone is feeling better soon!
And I love your observation that they are trees, not bushes. We’re having the opposite problem here – not enough winter! I wish there were a way to share more evenly. 🙂
Maurisa says
Oh no! Stomach bugs are the worst! Prayers for a quick and complete recovery.
I am so jealous of your snow! We finally got about 6 inches here in Northern Utah, but we really need a lot more or face water rationing this summer.
Cheryl says
Your backyard looks like ours. I realized yesterday just how much snow we had when I looked at the garden and couldn’t see any of the fencing that’s about 4 1/2 feet high! I don’t go out unless I have to in the winter- I just send the kids out:) My girls and I saw a robin today so we are hopeful that spring is just around the corner
Donna L. says
I will “send out a prayer” to Rosie and her littles…bless her heart!
I think you have had enough winter — we haven’t had much — and I hate to admit it, but it has been the BEST winter evah!
God bless you all…
Jamie says
I love the {phfr} series, and I’m excited to add my own for the first time today. We’re having a lot of winter too and it seems never ending. But at least we get snow days out of it.
Amanda says
So awful, Rosie and her family are dealing with the stomach bug! Pretty sure I’ve been scarred from our family getting an absolutely miserable one, one months after my youngest was born by cesarean. So much awful. Prayers that get well soon and the sun keeps on shining these weeks to come! This winter has been tough in the sick dept over here too. It’s been a crazy season! It’s been awhile since linking-up, happy to back!
Tia says
Hope those babies feel better! On a completely unrelated note, this article sort of reminded me of stuff you’ve written about before.
Woman of the House says
I just made it with two minutes to spare! Whew! I hope everyone in Rosie’s household is feeling better, and I hope your snow melts very soon!
