The weekly “little of this, little of that” feature from Like Mother, Like Daughter!
Yesterday, morning I was just enjoying the beautiful tulips and ranunculus that Suki gave me as a birthday gift (yes, this girl turned a year older on Wednesday).
Also enjoying the sunshine, as there was a notable and disappointing lack of it during April around these parts! May, if you are planning to deliver, please be my guest.
- Auntie Leila dug up and selected for this week a piece from the Touchstone archives: The Romance of Domesticity. I didn't get a chance to reread it this week, but I'll try to do so soon. It is beautiful. I can add that I know the author (a little) and I believe that his advice comes from an authentic place.
- A fun historical piece on the site markers of Boston.
- If you were inspired by the post on the Third Secret to Destruction-Proofing your Family (by the way, you may want to go and dip back into the comments, as that discussion has been ongoing!), perhaps you'd be interested in signing this open letter to the US Catholic Bishops (provided by an LMLD reader), to the effect that there is support for the Church's teachings on marriage and family from among the laity. (You don't even have to be Catholic to sign it!)
- A little racy here and there, but amusing overall: “Historical” Cosmo Covers.
- Ohhhhhh wow this is smart! I'm glad to be coming upon this early in Motherhood! A catch-all for Mothers Day cards! Seeing as I am such a fan of journals in general, I might just be tempted to start implementing this idea for other occasions, too. Every member of the family has a “birthday card” journal? It's a thought…
Speaking of cards solutions, here's a tutorial for a simple ringed binder card keeper.
- A lovely little tribute to a WWI veteran, referencing Sam Gamgee. “Supposing Him to be the Gardener…”
From the Archives:
- Kangaroo Care/Emergency Quilt!
- Start-Up Costs: Why it's not a good idea to use up ALL you have before you buy more.
Today is the feast of the Apostles Philip and James!

I simply loved the Romance of Domesticity article. Stressing the importance of wonder in the ordinary, in family and raising “placed people,” thank you for sharing.

Glad you liked it so well! I’m just excited to see that D knows Dr. Schlueter … We have a (marvelous) friend in common! And yes, he speaks from authority on domestic romance. 🙂
