The weekly “little of this, little of that” feature at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
Here are some of the pictures from our trip to visit Nick and Natasha and Francis in Charlottesville a few weeks ago. Quality nephew time!
Isn't he just a little story book child? |
It was a good move to wear a necklace that day. He was happy to cuddle with me for the sake of necklace-grabbing. |
I love both my nephews so much! I wish I could see both of them all the time!!
This week's links!
- For gratuitous, crafty fun, check out this post about Edelweiss Post vintage stamp stationery on the blog How About Orange. Pretty fancy!
- It's safe to say that, every late spring and summer, this particular discussion gets bandied about the bloggy world; and every summer I read at least one article about it that I think is well done and worth sharing, particularly with teen girls: The Bikini Question. I've been a little vexed recently over the lack of modesty even amongst nice girls from good families (can we please stop it with the ultra-short dresses, people?!). Whenever I scroll down my facebook newsfeed around this season, I sigh a little for all my male friends who must be seeing the same half-nudity that I'm seeing. I figure, if it stands out to me, what must their experience be?
Anyway, this article isn't particularly groundbreaking, but it does convey a solid message: dressing modestly is a sacrifice.
- Here is a good article providing insight on a problematic, distinctively post-modern way of thinking: The Deadly Myth of the Consenting Adult.
- On a similar note (in that the sovereign principle of ‘consent' is challenged in this piece), I think John Garvey's letter on Sexual Conduct on Campus (regarding my dear Alma Mater, CUA), is worth reading. This is an issue, I suppose, that every Catholic school must grapple with in the current ideological and legal climate.
- Here's a post that makes a strong argument in favor of homeschooling. What do you think? This is also a fairly counter-cultural way of thinking, at least insofar as it is probably pretty instinctive for most of us to want our kids to ‘fit in.' Why Are Homeschooled Kids so Annoying?
- Here's a NYTimes op-ed about The Gift of Siblings. Rosie's favorite line: “We marched (or, rather, crawled and toddled) into this crazy world together, and though we had no say in that, it’s by our own volition and determination that we march together still. Among my many blessings, this is the one I’d put at the top.”
- As you know, I love to talk about how to accomplish frugal wedding planning. How about this couple whose entire wedding was captured with a total of three iPhone 4s (and that includes videography)! Although I resist the iPhone in general, I do appreciate the concept!
- Also on a wedding note, here is a picture of a bridal party running away from a dinosaur.
Have a great weekend!

Agreed on the bikinis. This article made a big impression on me when I read it years ago, even though we are not Muslim. http://www.oprah.com/spirit/Choosing-to-Wear-the-…
