Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!

I had some beautiful red and yellow tomatoes from my farm box, and decided they needed to be made into a tart. Caramelized onions, feta cheese, tomatoes, and a rosemary-scented crust. I made it gluten- and dairy-free so we could share it with a friend who has allergies, and it turned out just delicious!
(In case you're interested in the details, I worked off of this recipe here. I used almond meal instead of sweet rice flour, and bacon fat as the shortening. I followed her suggestions to adjust the fat in the crust to account for not adding the cheese, though I'm sure it'd be delicious with the Parmesan if you weren't trying to avoid it! I did use cheese under the tomatoes because I have some delicious sheep's-milk feta that my friend can eat.)
What a mess!
A few weeks ago, though, I pulled a little bookshelf out of my neighbor's trash that I knew would help save my closet. The other day, the iron finally entered my soul, and I dragged every last thing out of that closet. Once I threw out what needed to be thrown out, filed the papers where they needed to go, and distributed everything to its rightful home, it turned out that not too much actually needs to live in the cavernous closet!
I get a little thrill of housewifely happiness and satisfaction now, every time I open the door.
(I've been opening it all the time, to get at my new vacuum, which I love! Talk about thrills of housewifely satisfaction… my floors are so clean!)
Pippo likes to bring his daddy his slippers, which makes him a pretty Good Son, if you ask me.
He also likes to wear them.
In fact, he likes to jump in them! As you might imagine, this isn't always entirely successful.
It's not at all unusual that I end up leaving a project unfinished, but usually I'm the cause of my own delay. It's much more frustrating to set aside the time and be ready to go, but find you're not able to. Don't you think?

The closet looks great! Such a satisfactory feeling, eh? (As we say in Canada!) My little one is in a shoe phase too – visitors often have to search the house before they leave to find where she walked them to!

we have a 4 sizes too big closet in our bedroom … so when the movers brought our boxes, and there was no place for them … guess where they went?! yep. in my bedroom closet. not good.
your tomatoes look yummy.

How cute is that kid in those big slippers! Your vacuum cleaner is unusual-looking – what type is it?
In the last photo, Rosie, that sheet with the Jacobean design – I have that sheet set in queen size, and the flat sheet is (very messily) covering a living room chair. Got the set on ebay. If you want/can use the two matching standard pillowcases, I'll send them to you. I like the design, but don't have a use for the cases. Nice job on the closet!

Lisa, it's a Dyson dc23 – their older canister vacuum. I got a good deal on a refurbished one, and am super-pleased with it so far!
Do you mean the white/floral pattern? That's actually my sewing board cover! Thank you for thinking of me with the pillowcases, but I probably wouldn't have a use for them either. It's definitely cute fabric, though – you could probably make something else out of them!

I also meant to say that romano cheese is also supposed to be made of sheep's milk, and that might be a substitute for the parmesan. The tart looks delicious!

I can identify with the thwarted project! My sewing machine malfunctioned RIGHT in the MIDDLE of a storage bag I was making that would solve a big Lego crisis at our house. It had to go away to be repaired and I just got it last night. Now I'm bushwhacking all the chores on my list out of the way so I can get back to that bag and FINISH it. Good luck with yours – I hope we get to know what it is!

Getting a closet organized and useable is happy indeed!

The closet looks wonderful! I would stick some hooks on the right for a broom, etc, and a shelf above it. I wish I had a similar space! 🙂
priest's wife says
that closet is beautiful! some hooks would make it perfect (up and out of the way of darling Pippo)

I can hear the “YARG!” all the way over here re: not being able to finish your sewing project. Been there, done that. But HOORAY! for organizing that deep deep closet! It's a little palace. I love the aqua boxes on the bottom shelves.

I've been known to do the 'throw and run' on occasion. This usually involves the basement. Someday I will learn that instant gratification is not worth the mess in the long run!

haha; well put. I love it. I might have to borrow that phrase sometime 🙂

Yes the tomato tart looks beautiful but the link for the recipe takes me to a page not found…. I would love to see the recipe!

Hmm… is it working now, Cathy? I updated the link.

Ha — our old apartment had a cavernous closet too! It quickly became so cluttered that we dubbed it “The Dungeon.” Our current townhouse has a laundry/utility room that is now our Dungeon. I think every home needs one — or at least acquires one eventually. 🙂 There are certain things that it's just impossible to keep organized and tidy, at least for any length of time. But having shelves certainly keeps the forces of chaos at bay! Yay for the thrill of housewifely success!

There's something about wearing Daddy's shoes. 🙂

Our old house had a carnivorous back porch. It was enclosed and only was supposed to house the litter box and cat food, but also held paint cans, boots, and, occasionally, baskets of stuff (normally around Christmas). It's kinda scary how fast a little room fills up.
Woman of the House says
Awwwww, how cute Pippo is in his daddy's slippers! Good job on that closet! I understand your “housewifely satisfaction.” I feel the same way when I tackle a big job that has been nagging at me!
