I thought Bridget's ponytail looked {pretty} on this day, and I took a picture so she could see it and know what she would be cutting off. She looked, and still really wanted to cut it off! (If you don't recall why she was considering a shocking change, read here about what her brain surgery entailed, hair-wise.)
After Irene passed through, she (Bridget, not Irene; Irene wasn't actually a person) was oh so {happy} — and excited! — to get out on the deck for her haircut!
It's {funny} how odd and a little heart-wrenching it feels to see the pony on the table, and you are all consoled to know that you will donate it (after it dries, of course).
I think this is {pretty} too — the {real} is that she wasn't going to smile for the photo, even though she loves her pixie cut!
Mama Bean says
Bridget makes me think of Hermione Granger (and/or Emma Watson). I'm not sure how y'all feel about Harry Potter 'round your parts, but in my books (ha) it's a favourable comparison, and please take it as such 🙂
Laura says
LOVE the new pixie!
Rachel says
PIXIE cut is right…she looks like an adorable, other-worldly woodland creature (but not with pointy ears). I really love it (and I am someone who has a very hard time getting a haircut).
It's amazing how well this accents her face. All of the sudden you notice she has perfect eyebrows and what a well-defined, petite chin she has (ENVY alert here!).
Bridget, you look wonderful.
Camille says
So, so, so CUTE! 🙂
_Rosie says
Aah! So short! And so pretty! This cut really showcases your beautiful face – and makes you look older, too! (in a good, pretty way) That sure was a pretty ponytail, too. You were very brave to cut it off. So much fun! I love it! (exclamation point!)
Laura says
She looks great! It's hard to say goodbye to long hair, but oh, the ease is wonderful.
ayearinskirts says
She looks stunning of course. But you knew that!
Theresa says
Oh pretty, pretty hair.
Kate says
The new cut looks great!
nadja says
I had such a hard time when my daughter cut her hair! Luckily, hair grows…(it's nice to have a change now and then, I guess, and Bridget can carry it off well with her pretty face!)
Linny says
Every two or three years, I cut off my precious hair and donate it. So proud of Bridget, though I know from personal experience that it's bittersweet.
Mama Hen says
She is just beautiful!
Lisa G. says
She has great hair – and looks good both ways. I'm glad she's enjoying it.
sarah says
Very cute – it looks like she enjoys it, despite lack of smile!
mary says
It's so sophisticated! I love it! Smile or no smile Miss Bridget…you a re beautiful young lady. Enjoy your new freedom from the weight of long hair! I cut mine in the ninth grade and have had it short ever since.
Kh. Patty says
Such a nice cut! Yup, I knew it would look good—the Emma Watson comparison still applies. 🙂 Did you do that yourself?? Do you have training or do you just cut a little here and a little there? I'm impressed. I've done my daughters, but they are just straight across. I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with my son (not that he has enough hair to cut… or will for many months…).
Deirdre says
I do a lot of hair cutting. Once you get the hang of it (and have a buzzer – key!) I think it's actually easier to do a basic man's hair cut than to do a woman's haircut.
emily barton says
This do-it-at-home-ing is inspiring. My husband does an excellent job with the boys' cuts (he was in the Navy and was quite used to doing his own so it was a short jump to doing the boys'), but I tried once and ended up with a half-cut on my oldest, in line at the barber shop. It was terrible! I've had it on my mind that there must be a how-to or two on youtube, so I think I'll go hunt around. It's fall haircut time around here!
_Leila says
Patty, I have always cut hair around here, and learned on the job! The key is to be observant and analyze what makes a haircut work. And what doesn't. Invest in a pair of professional sheers — spending $30 or so will pay for itself in NO TIME!
For the boys, you need a high-quality buzzer — you will be using it forever! Learn to use it and give what is called a “fade” — go up with the smallest attachment from the nice line you've made on their hairline, getting a little longer as you go up (otherwise it's a buzzcut). This cut will look handsome and last longer than the one they usually show on the video, which leaves it longer at the collar.
The buzzer is key!
Jessica says
So pretty! You did a great job, Leila!

Bridget, I just got my hair cut after a very long time with long hair. Don't you just pass by a mirror and not quite recognize yourself for a second? It is lovely!
Sue says
She did it!!
It looks fabulous – so fresh and pretty. She has just the right face shape and jawline for that cut. Way to be brave, Bridget!
Pippajo says
If ever a face was made for a pixie cut, Bridget's was! She looks stunning. But the lush ponytail was equally lovely. I say she had a win-win situation there!
My sister got her hair cut for the FIRST TIME after she graduated from high school. It fell to below her bottom before the big hack! Mom braided it for the big event and, instead of donating it, keeps it in a glass case in her living room secretary like a treasured relic. Much to our embarrassment, she used to bring it out to show people, and we would always drop down to our knees, clasp our hands and raise our eyes to heaven in mock reverence whenever she did! Just an idea for you, in case donating it doesn't work out, haha!
_Leila says
Haha, Pippajo, that is a fine idea! I could put the hair next to our relic of Pius X — people would have to reverence it without realizing what they were doing!!
Deirdre says
Haha. Weird.
Amy says
I had short hair for years, then after the birth of my twins I decoded to grow it long. My mom got breast cancer this year and started chemo and we knew she was going to lose her hair. In support (and I had been contemplating cutting it again) I cut it short again. My hair was just past my shoulders and now it is pretty much boy short and I love it. Bridget looks beautiful! You can see it here http://thiscrazylife-amy.blogspot.com/2011/03/mak…

Wow, suddenly she looks all grown up! And I agree with the previous commenter – she does have a resemblance to Hermione (Emma Watson) – and that's a good thing in our house, too!. 🙂
Deirdre says
Bridget, you look beautiful! Way to be bold with your look. (Now we just need Suki to get on board… 😉
It occurs to me that when I was your age, I also cut of a very long length of hair and donated it. I didn't go quite as short, but I did get a short cut that made everyone say “wow, you look so much older and mature!” It was just the right timing. I think the same for you, too!
The other night I actually had a dream that I was getting a pixie cut. I was alarmed at first, but then I actually really liked it! But… when I told my fiance about this later, he was not a big fan. He likes the long locks – don't think I'll be cutting drastically any time soon. But I like the idea even more after seeing how beautiful you look! 🙂
priest's wife says

She looks beautiful!!!
Auntie Leila…please advise us if there is anything you CANNOT do. (insert envious sigh here) 🙂
_Leila says
Haha, Ann Marie — see! It's a blessing not to have money! Otherwise, you'd have no incentive whatever to learn things!
Rachel says
Okay, that looks exactly like the haircut I had when I was that age! It looks good though I am sad that the long hair is gone.
Mrs. Pickles says
ohmigoodness she looks 25 and fabulous!
NY Mom says
Sooo….who's her stylist? (if it's you, Leila, 'fess up….and don't be shy about taking credit for doing such a great job!) Honestly, Bridget looks stunning – so serious (maybe it's her facial expression) and mature all of a sudden. I had short hair just like that in college and during my early years of marriage. It's such a clean, tidy, and smart look. And beautiful in its simplicity and elegance!
PNG says
Hey, I gave haircuts, too! Bridget looks so cute with her new do. Good job.:)
