For one thing, he smelled so interesting! And in different ways at different times!
(She is pretty skittish, and generally hides in Bridget's room when little kids come to visit, so this was really the closest she'd ever been to a child, I think!)
For another, he commanded the humans' attention so completely. She couldn't decide whether to protect him or be jealous of him.
She just knew she wanted to be nearby.
Maybe a little closer?
Just one really good sniff? Maybe a lick?
Aunt Bridget says “No!”
(note to self: do not cross Bridget!)
Every time we put the baby on the floor to play with him, Roxie would start inching her way into the mix.
Because they might get confused and play with her instead!
And if not, well – she has ways to remind you of her presence!
(Really, for the record, she was a very good doggie. I think she might have actually licked him once, tops. I think her two goals were: a) figure out once and for all what he smelled like. b) make everyone start paying attention to HER again!)

All of your sweet baby pics make our upside-down world feel right again! Life is, indeed, sweet, and we are all in God's loving hands. Kiss that sweet smelling head an extra few times for me!

I've enjoyed seeing the pictures of your visit. Your baby is darling, and the dog is pretty darn cute too!

Licking the baby is probably not a bad thing – think of how it will build up his immune system! I wish I had grown up with a dog. I love them but am bit scared of them which I don't think would be the case if they'd been around growing up.

I love the picture of Pippo when Roxie is licking him. He is just looking so cute and animated. That is a good color on him.

My folk's dog was (is) the same way around my kids. He is now best of friends with the bigger kids. So much so that my 7 yr old cried herself to sleep the other week when she realized that Shep's lifespan was shorter than hers. (aka he won't always be here. sad) I wish that I had thought of taking pictures of the kids with him when they were little like you have. I will have to do that with my current little man (6 mo. old). Oh, and “note to self about Bridget” – very funny.
