I've had multiple requests from my female relatives on the East Coast for pictures of my sideboard and my belly.
So without further ado:
Is it a bad sign when your belly is big enough to block your view of the furniture? Or maybe just a sign that it's just about time to have that baby! |
I've been searching for a sideboard (buffet, hutch… any of the above) for my dining room since we moved here, and had gotten very discouraged. I just couldn't find the right thing within our price range.
I was so happy to have a sideboard in time for Thanksgiving pies! |
I was convinced that my homemaking life would be so much better if I just had a pretty horizontal surface/storage space in my dining room, but after several months of daily craigslist stalking and frequent thrift/antique/consignment store lurking (and even a trip up to the Long Beach flea market) I'd just about despaired of finding the right thing.
It also gives me a pretty spot for our Nativity – a wedding gift from the family of some dear students of mine back in Virginia. |
And then, just when I was resigning myself to the idea that I wouldn't find one before the baby came – craigslist to the rescue!
It's just the right size for our dining room, and even matches our table quite nicely. I've moved my table linens from the jumble in my laundry room to neat stacks in the drawers, I have spots for some less-used serving dishes in the cupboards, and when I make a cake, I can leave it on a stand under my cute cake dome on top!
Best of all, it was only $50! A veritable steal. It's got some scratches, but in a friendly sort of way.
And I was right! I can safely say that my homemaking life has been much improved by this piece of furniture. Isn't that a good feeling?
A little overexposed, but still a better view of both the sideboard and the stomach. |
And, what's even more exciting – only a few weeks left until our little one shows his face around here!
I'm including this picture, taken a few weeks ago by my talented friend Tracy, ostensibly for comparison's sake, but really for vanity. Trust me: I don't usually look this picturesque! |

I think you look fabulous. As do your pies, and your sideboard, and your wedding china.
Can't wait to see the wee little one!

Oh my! What a steal on that sideboard.
You are sooooo beautiful! I especially love that last photo. You do look like you're carrying high – are you having breathing trouble? I am short waisted, which meant that I always had feet up in my ribs. I found that getting on my hands and knees for a bit helped me get some relief from that squished rib feeling. Give it a try!
I have two Dec. babies, and one Jan., and I loved being prego at this time of year. I'll be praying for a smooth last few weeks and delivery!

I too have a very short waist, and have feet in the ribs for sure! I'm not breathing as easily as I used to, though it bothers me the most when I'm singing – I just can't make it through a phrase! I find myself wishing the organist would play everything twice as fast at church. 🙂
I'm going to try your hands-and-knees trick; that sounds like it would feel good!

Love it! Great thrifting!
And you look wonderful. Can't wait!

You are incredible!!! $50 for that beautiful and insanely useful piece? Sideboards are so wonderful because there is just no way you can fit nice table settings and all the dishes onto the table… and who wants to serve everyone all the time. And you look beautiful. CANNOT wait for the little one to appear!!!!!!!!!

The pictures are gorgeous! However, the real thing I need to comment on is the sideboard, hutch, buffet comment. My family has had debates about whether to call that type of furniture a sideboard, hutch, buffet, credenza, etc. (yes, we really have debated it–we're dorks!) It made me laugh to see a whole post about a sideboard! Thanks! http://istherezucchiniinthis.blogspot.com/

Rosie you look beautiful! What a nice sideboard and pies too. Oh and we also have the Fantanini nativity set and have been adding to it little by little. The most wonderful thing about that set is you never have to worry about kids breaking the pieces. My kids play “house” with them. Just keep a close eye on Jesus. He is little (and very lovable to a two year old) so he gets lost often in our house. Makes for a good time to tell the story about him being lost in the Temple. Always funny when you here a little one yell out “I found Jesus!”.
Rosie says
The sweet mom who gave us the set emphasized that there was always room for a beautiful heirloom creche: this was the Nativity the kids could play with! Good advice about keeping an eye on Baby Jesus – I'll keep that in mind!

You look beautiful! Pregnant women are among the loveliest things on God's green earth. And your sideboard is lovely too. 🙂

Your sideboard is lovely! Since we don't have a linen closet (tiny Chicago apartment… or even big ones don't usually have linen closets!) our sideboard houses our bathroom towels!
Your belly is lovely too. 🙂

prayers for you during this last month- I do admit…I am a little jealous of 36 weeks- my last 2 were born at 36 and then 32 weeks- a full term baby is fun (even if it is exhausting to stay pregnant)

Both are beautiful, the mama more so. Blessings on your home and the little one to come.

Roro!!! You look so adorable! I can't believe how soon you're going to have a baby… crazy!! You are such a beautiful mommy. Wish I could see you in person. 🙂
Sweet sideboard, too. You're kinda stealing the show with your belly, otherwise I'd be ooh-ing and aah-ing more over it. That's so awesome that you found one with so much character.

Both are beautiful!

Lovely! You and the sideboard! Craigslist is a very happy place indeed.

Ah, yes! My harassment of poor, 9-months-pregnant ladies pays off! You are adorable!! I can't wait to see him!

Beautiful mama next to a steal of a deal! My 83 year old mother got a similar sideboard many many years ago. I grew up with it! It is just like yours but the finish is a high gloss. I actually like the looks of yours better.
Blessings to you as you await your first bambino.

I'm praying for an easy, safe delivery for you. The pies are beautiful. Did you make ALL those?
Rosie says
That's what happens when you have an irrational affection for each kind of Thanksgiving pie: you end up making three: one fewer than the number of adults at Thanksgiving dinner!
Thank you for the prayers!
Sarah says
Great sideboard! I hope to have a home large enough for one someday– the apartment I'm in is just too small for one currently.
And your baby belly! It's great! My first and only is 10 months old and, as uncomfortable as pregnancy was, I'm missing having a baby in my belly. It's such an awesome miracle, and a time unlike any other I expect to ever have again, future pregnancies aside. Praying you have an uneventful next several weeks and a safe, healthy delivery.
anne says
Rosie, I am loving your frequent additions to this blog…I suppose those will taper off in the next couple of weeks…:)

You look so lovely, it's wonderful that you'll have these beautiful pictures to look back on over the years. I'm starting to regret having no pregnancy photos – at all.(I was always told that I looked bad in photos as a child and it's sort of stuck, we have only a handful of photos of me at all) I'm expecting my seventh, prehaps I should be a bit braver this time, I'm not getting younger I might never have another chance.
Your sideboard is great, you're right a flat surface to display ondoes make a big difference, just never let clutter on it, it breeds when on one is looking!
Rosie says
Oh, I've been militant about clutter so far – and it's the one horizontal surface in our house that isn't covered with random junk!
And you should absolutely start taking photos now! We're always our own worst critics when it comes to photos, but believe me – your kids will love looking back at them and seeing how beautiful you are! Anything even vaguely unflattering about them they will just blame on the decade.
Lori says
You look lovely! and the sideboard is Nice too 🙂 As for size VS furniture… unless you are 5ft. tall and expecting twins- not to worry dear! I was as round as I was tall and they used a piano for my furniture backdrop!!
God Bless you.
Claire says
Aaaaah! This is where you are hiding the pregnancy pictures! You are so beautiful — I can't wait for the baby! (Also, excellent work on the sideboard. We inherited a hutch and buffet from my grandmother and they have been invaluable.)
