I had an old fire door to my studio which I had painted purple (wish I had taken a picture of it). I liked the purple but the plastic looking door was really ugly and uninviting.
So I asked one of the dealers (as in antique dealer) in my building if she had a door. She gave me a lovely door that was painted a shocking pink (you would not want to see that).
I will post a picture of my mosaic when it is done. It is a long process and because one works in reverse it is hard to tell exactly how it will look.

oo, the door is very nice! I like the pastel of the irises. Aren't they an bold, elegant flower??What is this mosaic for? I am excited to see that project progress. I have never seen a mosaic in progress before.

I'll be excited to see the mosaic project progress too! I have greatly enjoyed making mosaics in the past, but I've never done it this way, always with broken tile. I love the texture of it. The marble you are working with is beautiful!

just like your art… your new door is a delight! Dixie

Anne,Thanks for your compliments. Yes, I love the boldness of Iris. I planted some white ones in the garden a few years ago and hopefully they will multiple. I will do another post when the mosaic is done with photos of the various steps. I'm hoping to use this one as a top for a table but haven't worked that out. It may end up being an ornament for the garden, who knows?Erika,The method I'm using for the mosaic is the way the ancients did it. Many of the old mosaics were done with glass or stone as well as marble – all cut in the same way. Will do another post.Dixie,Thanks. I'm delighted with my door. It encourages visitors.
