I don't know if you are going to be in the mood for these sunny pictures! They are not in the Thanksgiving mode at all…but I couldn't post about this quilt until I had given it to my goddaughter, and that took a while.
But now I will show you, unseasonably, this quilt I thought of making in February, when I found out that “little” Anne would be confirmed (in March. It took me many more months to make it!). A good time for a godmother to give something lasting…I thought of a quilt…but what would she like? She's a young lady! No good giving a baby quilt!
She likes bright clear colors — that's all the guidance I had. These are the colors I pulled from my stash, and the funny thing is that some of these fabrics are ones I almost regretted buying long ago! When would I ever use these bright clear colors? Well, the moment had come.
Somehow it seemed fun to put this row in the back, joining the two pieces of muslin I used to make the backing.
After I put it together and quilted it, the thought came to me that I would like to do something with Scripture. I wanted to write Bible verses on this quilt! I remember this past Easter vigil thinking that all the important Scriptures are there in the liturgy, and I must remember them and go back to them to see what our Holy mother the Church wants us to know above all. If you had only a small space in which to put a few passages from God's Word, what would you choose?
If you click on the picture below, you can see what I did, I think!
I went not only over all the Vigil readings, but I wrote them out…in the end, I decided to add two strips on top for the Old Testament (Hear O Israel and the Lord is my Shepherd), and three on the bottom for the New, one passage from each Gospel (two are on one strip, don't ask me why).
{I used Staedtler pigment liner pens; 0.1 mm for the OT and label; 0.3mm for the Gospels. They are supposed to be archival, acid-free, and water resistant. I don't think they will stand up to harsh washing, though. My pigma pens were almost out of ink and I couldn't find any more…but they won't last forever either.}
Can you see that I appliqued the strips to the backing? It's hard to get the pictures with the right detail!
And then my label. Do you always label your quilts?

I've always been a little in awe of people who quilt. I can't even seem to finish knitting a sweater (been "working" on it since last summer). I love the idea of putting favorite Bible passages on it! What a great idea!So, I've nominated you for an award, as one of my favorite blogs. I'm not sure what the award means, but you've got one, too, now!

What a lucky girl Anne is to have such a godmother!

I don't know how I missed seeing this quilt, but it's the first time I saw it. BEAUTIFUL. I love all the brights with the cool white. Your quilting is lovely, too, the way it includes and goes out from the triangles.Inspiring, as usual!
